The whole process of writing letters takes more time than using an email . You have to fold, insert, address the envelope, stick postage stamps and finally post the letter in a post office, which is very time consuming; and people nowadays are running out of time. In our era of email, especially for us teenagers or Millennials as we are often called, written letters don’t stand a chance. That’s because thanks to the advent of internet, we are able to interact with people in real time all over the world. But I agree that letters have that classical feeling attached to them. Writing a letter is always a better way of expressing a feeling to someone. If for example you want to impress someone or you want to show your condolence, you must ponder upon writing a personal letter instead of sending emails.
“Is this a change for the better?
I believe not. But the change happened and it can’t be undone. There is nothing that can compare to writing and receiving a letter. It is true that It takes time, it takes thought, it takes materials. You have to buy a stamp and even go to a post office. Then you have to wait for a response. Tension builds – “Maybe it didn't get there”. There is drama. It can also be frustrating - Wrong postage, wrong address.
But do we really need that kind of tension? I love the immediacy of electronic communication. I don't handle not-knowing well. So, I think the instant emailing has really convinced me to let the letter-writing go.
