Despite telling his wife, Cynthia, that Yoko Ono was contacting him only for money for "her avant-garde filth," Lennon filed for divorce in 1968, only to marry Yoko four months later. Their honeymoon is known for the famous "Bed-in for Peace" photo.
The couple was famous for their activist spirit: the two publicly protested the Vietnam War and promoted messages of love and tolerance. They were inseparable, and that also caused tensions within The Beatles - for example, when Ono was injured in a car accident, he demanded that a large bed be installed in the studio where the band was recording Abbey Road - and many fans blame her for breaking up the band. Their love was abruptly broken when Lennon was assassinated in 1980
